Saketh Myneni jumped six places in the men's singles rankings to 137th after his maiden appearance in a Grand Slam at the US Open. Myneni, who was knocked out in the first round itself, continues to be the highest-ranked Indian in the Association of Tennis Professionals, or ATP, rankings. Myneni had won three qualifying rounds to face Jiri Vesely in the first round, and pushed the Czech player to the limit before losing 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, 2-6, 5-7 in a game that ran for close to four hours.
The 28-year-old Myneni will be one of the main players leading India's charge in the upcoming Davis Cup clash against Spain in the absence of Rohan Bopanna. India did not fare well elsewhere in the rankings with one-time golden boy Yuki Bhambri slumping to 219. Ramkumar Ramanathan, also a part of the Davis Cup singles team, dropped one spot to languish at 203. Eighteen-year-old Sumit Nagal made slight progress to move up to 380th in the table.
Sania Mirza continued to hold on to her No. 1 spot in the women's doubles rankings, despite crashing out of the US Open in the quarter-finals. Second-placed Martina Hingis is close on Mirza's heels with only five points separating the two.
