New Zealand cricket coach Mike Hesson on Tuesday said that his board had held discussions with India to play a day/night Test match with a pink ball during their upcoming tour, but did not specify why the plan never materialised. Hesson said that New Zealand were ready to play a day/night Test in India, having already played one in Australia last year, but then seemed to hint that it was India who shelved the proposal.
"Look, I think there's no doubt that the pink ball Test was discussed," said Hesson, as reported by PTI. "We obviously having played one were quite happy to play one but for some reason it wasn't thought appropriate. Certainly not something that came from our camp," he added.
Asked whether bilateral series were losing context, Hesson was again indirect in his response. "We have been operating in the same system for some time. Every series is a new challenge. We take every series seriously. As a cricketer, you do face this challenge. Every cricket player wants to play a format that has context, every series you play needs to mean something," he said.
