The big news: 'We must not forget last season,' says Conte

Following Chelsea's first defeat of the season, a 1-2 loss at home to Liverpool on Friday, manager Antonio Conte warned his players that they were repeating last season’s mistakes when the club finished 10th in the table. Goals by Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson gave Liverpool a 2-0 lead in the first half after Jurgen Klopp’s side played an aggressive brand of football. Chelsea’s prime striker Diego Costa pulled one back in the second half for the Blues. However, that wasn’t enough to spark a comeback. In the end, Liverpool had breached the Bridge, which had no defence.

Speaking to the media after the match, Conte said, as quoted by The Guardian, “We must not forget last season. That was such a bad season, and I don’t want to repeat it. When you finish the season in 10th place, there is something strange. It’s not natural. It’s not simple. When you finish in 10th place it means you have to work very hard to improve to make sure you don’t repeat the bad season. I think that, this season, the manager, the players, all the people who work for Chelsea must take their responsibility. Because, I repeat, we win together, we lose together.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised his players following the win, saying they "played football like hell". Liverpool have now beaten Arsenal, Leicester City and Chelsea away, and drawn at Tottenham. Speaking after the Chelsea match, the German said, "Look, we have 10 points. That’s fantastic. I’m really happy after these difficult fixtures. We know we can play good football, we’re convinced about our quality. We just have to keep it up. Today we played football like hell. It was really nice to watch. In the second half it was a bit more difficult but, after their goal, we managed it well."
