Defending champions Mumbai beat Tamil Nadu by two wickets as their round one Ranji Trophy encounter ended on Day three. After being dismissed for 87 in the first innings, Tamil Nadu scored 185 in their second innings, which left Mumbai requiring 97 runs to win.

Mumbai were struggling at 35/5 in their chase, before Abhishek Nayar struck 45 to take his side to victory. Nayar struck a match winning partnership of 30 runs with Balvinder Singh Sandhu (12) for the eighth wicket before the latter fell with the score on 90.

Tamil Nadu started the day at 153/6 but could add only 32 more runs as Dhawal Kulkarni took the last four wickets to finish with figures of 6/47.

Suresh Raina down with flu, UP forced to follow-on

Uttar Pradesh captain Suresh Raina did not bat on Saturday as he was down with a flu. His side was forced to follow-on in their clash against Madhya Pradesh in Hyderabad. Resuming at 131/5, UP were all out for 176 chasing MP’s huge target of 465. Raina has already flown back home to recover from his illness and will not take further part in the match.
