Chennai's Jeppiyar Institute thumped Punjab's UPFC 16-0 in the second Women's I-League preliminary match of Wednesday. Jeppiyar were 7-0 up at half-time and scored nine more when play resumed. Indumati scored five goals and Sumithra scored three. Player of the Match S Pradeepa bagged a first-half brace. Nandhini also registered a pair of goals while Muthu Selvi, Juki, Varalakshmi and Amsavalli got a goal each.
Muthu Selvi opened the account for Jeppiyar as early as the fifth minute. Pradeepa scored the second, which came in the 12th minute. Indumati soon got in on the act and netted two goals in as many minutes to give her side a 4-0 lead with just 24 minutes into the game. With seven minutes left for the end of the half, Nandhini got on the scoresheet. The sixth and the seventh goals came from Pradeepa and Juki, whose goals were separated by only a minute.
The onslaught continued as as Indumati got a second-half hat-trick. Around the hour mark, Sumithra and Varalakshmi scored three goals between them in the space of eight minutes. Amsavalli got her side's 15th goal before Sumithra landed the final punch in the last minute of the game, completing her treble.
In the first match of the day, Rising Student FC beat Alakhpura FC 2-0 to climb to the top of the table.
