India women climbed to the top of the Asian Champions Trophy table with a 2-0 win against Malaysia, who slumped to their third defeat in as many games.

India opened the scoring early in the game through Poonam Rani before Deepika doubled their lead in the second half from a penalty corner. With seven points from three games, India sit pretty at the top, four points clear of second-placed South Korea.

India took the lead as early as the seventh minute through a field goal from Poonam Rani. Despite failing to add to the tally the Indians hung on to their lead at half-time. With barely a minute left to the end of the third quarter, India were awarded a penalty corner, which was put away by Deepika.

India had a lion's share of the ball in the final quarter but couldn't make it count. India's final round-robin game will be against China on November 4th. The top two teams progress to the final.
