Manchester City’s Toni Duggan scored a stunning goal as the Manchester City women’s team qualified to the last eight of the Champions League with an aggregate 2-1 victory over Brondby on Wednesday. Struck during the second half of the match, Duggan pivoted to control a half-volley on her left foot which she sent flying into the top corner of the net for a goal.

With the goal, City entered the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League after a 1-1 second leg draw at Brondby. Coming into the tie with a 1-0 win in the first leg, City went ahead owing to Duggan’s exquisite strike in the 64th minute. However, Brondby equalised through Nanna Christiansen. City, though, progressed to the last eight of Europe’s elite club competition, owing to the 2-1 aggregate.

In another match, Lyon thrashed Zurich 17-0 on aggregate as they too cemented their spot in the quarter-finals. They beat them 9-0 in the first leg and then in the second leg of the match they made it 8-0 to make it 17-0 on aggregate.
