The West Indies women’s team won the first Twenty20 International of the three-match series against India at Vijayawada on Friday.
India’s new T20I skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bat first. But, India were off to a horrible start, losing both their openers with 28 runs on the board. But, Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy crucial 70-run stand powered India past the 100 mark. Krishnamurthy was dismissed for 50 while Kaur remained unbeaten on 68 as India reached 150/4 in 20 overs.
West Indies rode on a terrific knock of 90 from their skipper and opener Stafanie Taylor, who took her side to their first win in India in the ongoing series. She demolished the Indian bowling attack in her 51-ball knock smashing three sixes and 12 fours. She missed out on a deserving ton with India’s Shikha Pandey dismissing her. Pandey was the pick of the Indian bowlers grabbing three wickets 3/31 in her allotted four overs.
