India’s PV Sindhu lost the final of the Hong Kong Open to third seed Tai Tzu-Ying of Taiwan in straight games on Sunday. Sindhu put up a valiant fight but went down 21-15, 21-17 in an enthralling encounter.

Sindhu, who won the China Open last week, had the momentum required to beat Ying, but the Taiwanese was up to the task as she fended off the Olympic silver medalist.

The first game saw Sindhu losing early point owing to errors on her part. She lost the first set 21-15 as Ying dominated the game towards the end. The second game started off with Sindhu gaining a four-point lead.

However, Ying upped the ante to make it 4-4 before exploiting Sindhu’s weakness and eventually bag the game and match 21-17.
