Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu has pulled out of the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold tournament starting on Tuesday.

Sindhu has recused herself from the tournament in order to prepare herself for the Dubai Super Series finals, PTI reported. Sindhu was the defending champion at Macau and was due to face China’s Yue Han in her opening clash on Wednesday.

Sindhu has just competed in back-to-back tournaments — China Open and Hong Kong Open — going all the way in the former, while finishing runner-up in the latter.

“She had originally planned to play at Macau Open but after she qualified for Dubai Super Series Finals, we have decided to skip the event as otherwise she will not get enough time to prepare for the Dubai event,” Sindhu’s father PV Ramana was quoted as saying by PTI.

The Dubai Super Series final will be played from December 14, where only the world’s top eight players make the cut. London Olympics bronze medallist, Saina Nehwal, will now lead India’s charge at Macau.

Looking to make a comeback after recovering from injury, Nehwal had crashed out in the first round of the China Open, but reached the quarters in Hong Kong. She will now look to take another forward step on her comeback trail.
