Gareth Southgate has been handed a four-year deal as manager of the England football team, the country’s Football Association announced in a statement on Wednesday.
“I am extremely proud to be appointed England manager,” said Southgate. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the players over these past four games and I think there’s huge potential. I’m determined to give everything I have to give the country a team that they’re proud of and one that they’re going to enjoy watching play and develop.”
Southgate, 46, who was the England Under-21s manager till September was made interim boss following Sam Allardyce’s departure after only 67 days in charge, following a sting operation.
As interim boss Southgate has gone four games without a loss with two wins and as many draws. He has signed a contract reportedly worth up to £2 million a year, BBC reported.
Southgate has made 57 appearances for England as a player. He is England’s fourth permanent manager in the last four years.
