Indian shuttler PV Sindhu on Thursday rose to seventh in the Badminton World Federation women’s singles world rankings, moving up by two spots in the table after winning her maiden China Open title. The 22-year-old also finished runners-up in the Hong Kong Open and has now booked a place in the BWF Superseries final, which will be contested by the top eight players in December.
The Superseries final will be held in Dubai between December 14 to 18. Saina Nehwal also climbed up the table, making a comeback into the top 10 after moving up a spot. There were more reasons to smile for the Indian contingent after Hong Kong Open runner-up Sameer Verma moved up by 13 spots to take the No. 30 position in the men’s singles rankings..
Meanwhile, India’s top seed Kidambi Srikanth slipped by one spot to move to 13th in the table. Olympic gold medalist Carolina Marin lost her top spot after crashing out in the quarter-final of the China Open. Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu-ying now sits on the summit of the women’s singles list after winning the Hong Kong Open.
Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon also fell by a spot to take the No. 3 spot. There were little changes in the men’s singles list, which is still led by Lee Chong Wei.
