India’s Parupalli Kashyap entered the quarter-finals of the Korea Masters Grand Prix Gold by beating China’s Zhou Zeqi in Seogwipo on Thursday.

Kashyap beat Zeqi 21-11, 13-21, 21-8 in 45 minutes.

The Commonwealth Games champion dominated his opponent in the first game, taking five straight point after the change of ends to take the lead.

In the second game, Zeqi gave back in kind. He took a 11-6 lead. Kashyap fought back, but the Chinese player kept his nerve to level the score.

In the third, Kashyap found his bearings and raced to an 8-3 lead. Zeqi could offer little resistance as he controlled play. Kashyap hardly broke a sweat as he sealed a place in the last-eight stage.

The Indian will next take on Korea’s Jeon Hyeok Jin in the quarters.
