World No. 1’s Angelique Kerber and Andy Murray were names the ITF World Champions for 2016.

This is the first time both players have won this award that will be presented to them on June 9 2017, in the French capital during the French Open.

Kerber had an impressive season, winning the Australian. She also won the US Open title as well as a silver at the Rio Olympics. She become the first German to win the award since Steffi Graf, who claimed the last of her seven in 1996.

Murray too had an equally stellar year. He won Wimbledon in July before becoming the first player to win two Olympic singles gold medals when he retained his crown in Rio de Janeiro in August.

The Brit won nine titles this year that also saw him pip rival Novak Djokovic to win the ATP Tour Finals and end the year on top of the rankings.

Along with Kerber and Murray, the French team of Kristina Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia was selected as the ITF Women’s Doubles World Champions.

The men’s doubles team of Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares was picked as the ITF Men’s Doubles World Champions.

The Murray brothers’ achievement in being named as the ITF World Champions in singles and doubles makes them the first brothers’ duo to receive the award. The duo went on to accomplish several personal milestones this season, including being the first sibling pair to simultaneously finish the season as the World No. 1 in singles and doubles respectively.

Among the juniors, Anastasia Potapova of Russia and Miomir Kecmanovic were selected as the ITF Junior World Champions, in girls and boys’ categories respectively. Lastly, Jiske Griffioen and Gordon Reid were named as the ITF Wheelchair World Champions.
