India’s Test skipper Virat Kohli is having a stellar year and there is no doubt about it. However, if you still are in two minds about it, have a look at the numbers he has notched up in 2016. Kohli has become the first Indian to get three double centuries in Tests in a single year. Kohli also has the most runs across all formats this season smashing 2580 runs with England’s Joe Root in second place with 2476 runs.
However, in terms of average runs across all formats, Kohli has a staggering average of 88.96, the highest ever with AB de Villiers a distant second with 65.27. This year has been his breakthrough year since making his debut in 2011. His previous highest was 2286 in 2014, in terms of runs scored across all formats. Kohli also has the highest runs scored in an innings by an Indian Test skipper, 235 against England in Mumbai. 2017 promises to be even bigger given the form India’s run machine is in.
