Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay will not be part of Tamil Nadu Ranji side that faces Karnataka in the quarterfinal from December 23 in Visakhapatnam, ESPNcricinfo reported.
Ashwin is reported to be suffering from sports hernia, while Vijay is yet to recover from a shoulder injury that he suffered during the final Test against England.
“Ashwin told me that he has sports hernia, and if he continues to play he may have to go for surgery,” TNCA secretary Kasi Viswanathan told ESPNcricinfo. “What he needs is rest. That’s the diagnosis.”
Regarding Vijay, Viswanathan said, “Till yesterday evening, the BCCI support staff told us he was very unlikely to play. Even without the scan, they said he was only 60 percent fit. Today, they have confirmed and we have asked him to take rest.”
Karnataka has named a full-strength squad for the match, with the likes of Karun Nair, KL Rahul and Manish Pandey set to play.
