Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who underwent surgery on Tuesday after being subject to a knife attack, will be out for up to six months, reported Reuters.
The report quoted the surgeon, Radek Kebrle, who operated the Czech Republic ace as saying “We are talking about a period of around six months” before her wounded hand can acclimatize to competitive pressure.
The 26-year-old Kvitova was operated for nearly four hours after the attack by an intruder at her Prostejov residence.
A report from the Guardian quoted the player as saying that she is adamant about a quick recovery. A spokesperson said, “Doctors repaired damage to tendons in all five digits of the left hand, as well as two nerves. Petra will wear a cast on her hand for six to eight weeks and will be unable to bear weight for three months.”
The attacker had entered Kvitova’s building after posing as a worker reading utility meters and held a knife to her throat. In the struggle that followed, the World No. 13 had deep-cut wounds to all the fingers on her left hand.
