Yuki Bhambri continued to display good form after returning from a long injury lay-off to breeze through to the second round of the Australian Open qualifiers. Bhambri beat American Stefan Kozlov 6-1, 6-4 in Melbourne on Wednesday. Bhambri, ranked a lowly 534 upset his opponent, who is placed at 116 in the table.
Meanwhile, Bhambri’s Davis Cup partner, Saketh Myneni didn’t have the rub of the green and was booted out from the first Grand Slam of the calendar year. Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk, ranked 189th, was in imperious touch and routed the Indian 6-0, 6-2.
Bhambri was once again in supreme touch at the net. Just a week ago, the 24-year-old used a similar strategy to destroy Ramkumar Ramanathan in the Chennai Open. Bhambri was solid with shots from the baseline too. The Delhi ace will face Serbia’s Pedja Krstin in the second round.
