Pakistan’s opening batsman Nasir Jamshed was arrested in London on Tuesday by Britain’s National Crime Agency in connection to the alleged spot-fixing scandal that has plagued the ongoing Pakistan Super League, Hindustan Times reported.

He was later granted bail after being interrogated by the Agency.

The development came a day after the Pakistan Cricket Board executive committee chairman Najam Sethi announced Jamshed’s suspension from all forms of cricket for violating their anti-corruption code. The PCB had earlier suspended Pakistan players Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif.

An unnamed international syndicate is believed to be the brains behind an operation to corrupt players in the PSL, which is being played in Dubai, reported ANI.

The National Crime agency, in a press statement, said “Two men in their thirties have been arrested by National Crime Agency (NCA) officers in connection with bribery offences as part of an ongoing investigation into international cricket match spot-fixing.”

The agency added that they were working closely with the PCB and the ICC’s anti-corruption units as a part of the investigation.
