The India’s women’s rugby team won finished runners-up at the Asian Women’s Sevens trophy at Vientiane, Laos on Saturday. Odisha’s Hupi Majhi finished among the top three try scorers in the tournament. Meerarani Hembram stood third in the conversions tally.
South Korea ran out comfortable winners in the final, beating India 29-0. However, the Indians were dominant against every opponent they were up against till they reached the summit event.
The side played four games on Friday, kicking off proceedings with a comprehensive 22-7 win against host Laos. Later in the day, they went on beat Philippines 12-7, and went on to register their biggest win in the tournament, a whopping 43-0 triumph against Nepal.
India capped off a memorable day by getting the better of Malaysia, 26-12. India started the day by edging arch-rivals Pakistan 5-0 before being halted by the dominant Koreans, who won each of their games in the tournament by at least 10 points. South Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, India and hosts Lao competed in the tournament.
