Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi bid adieu to international cricket on Monday, reported ESPNcricinfo. Afridi, who smashed a 28-ball 54 for Peshawar Zalmi against Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League, said that he will not try to make a comeback in Pakistan’s T20I team.
“I have said goodbye to international cricket,” Afridi said. “I am playing for my fans and will continue to play this league for another two years but it’s goodbye from international cricket. Now my foundation is important for me. I have played with seriousness and in a professional way for my country.”
Afridi retired from Test cricket in 2010 and quit from the 50-over format after the 2015 World Cup. He continued playing T20I cricket for Pakistan and led the team in the 2016 World T20. After the tournament, he stepped down as captain. However, since then, he has not been picked by the selectors, missing the clash against England and the three matches against West Indies in the UAE in September last year.
