The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators of the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to introduce a disclosure form for every employee to avoid conflict of interest and help in the clean proceedings of the board, reported Times of India. The decision was taken during the CoA meeting on Saturday.
The CoA, led by former Comptroller and Auditor General of India Vinod Rai, reportedly discussed that some of the board officials could have stakes in clubs or agencies connected to the game. The report added the the CoA is ensuring the current board members don’t have any business ties with the administrators who were ousted after the Justice Lodha committee recommendations were implemented across boards.
The COA started the process keeping tabs on the background of the officials. “It’s a standard operating procedure,” TOI quoted its source as saying. “The CoA wants all information about employees, their background and relevant details. Accordingly, the employees were handed disclosure forms two days back.”
The CoA has been looking into administrators who hold more than one post. “With an intention to keep the image of the board clean, the COA took a decision to introduce this new system,” the source told the daily. “It will also ensure that the board officials don’t have any conflict of interest.”
The report also said that these measures were part of the clean-up drive of CoA. All staff members who had close ties with former BCCI chief Anurag Thakur and ex-secretary Ajay Shirke have been shown the door. “This process to determine the board employees’ disclosure isn’t a step to insult any of the professionals,” the source said.
“It’s just a precautionary measure to ensure that no one is pointing fingers at BCCI after the CoA puts the house in order. Hopefully, the board officials won’t take it otherwise.”
