India’s PV Sindhu decimated Dinar Dyah Ayustine of Indonesia 21-12, 21-4 to enter the quarter-finals of the All England Open Badminton Championships for the first time, in Birmingham on Thursday.
The 2016 Olympic silver medallist broke little sweat in the contest that lasted only 30 minutes. Sindhu was in terrific form scoring fine winners to completely outplay her opponent.
The World No 6 started on cautious note and was equal on points with the Indonesian at 4-4 in the first game. She soon surged ahead racing to 11-5 at the change of ends. With superior footwork and on-court coverage, Sindhu dominated her opponent for the rest of the game.
Ayustine did push Sindhu for some long rallies, but could not quite match Sindhu’s quick movement around the court. The Indonesian was forced into committing several errors during the game even as Sindhu took a sizeable lead. The World No 6 took the game 21-12 in 16 minutes.
The second game was when Sindhu really hit her stride. The Indian shuttler raced to a 9-0 lead. It was then that 39th-ranked Ayustine shot three back to back points raising hopes of a fightback. But that was the only blip in the game for Sindhu, who lost just one point from then on before closing out the game 21-4 to complete the lop-sided win.
