West Bromwich Albion piled on the misery for struggling Arsenal, who slumped to a tame 1-3 loss against an inspired outfit at the Hawthorns Stadium on Saturday.
Craig Dawson thumped in two well-executed headers on either side of the break. Hal Robson-Kanu gave West Brom the lead after Alexis Sanchez had equalised for Arsenal early in the second half.
Arsenal’s vulnerability at set-pieces were once again brutally exposed by Tony Pulis’s side, who had only 23 percent possession during the game. Nacer Chadli set up the opener, which game in the 12th minute with a pin-point cross.
Sanchez equalised just three minutes later after getting to the end of an excellent ball from midfielder Granit Xhaka. Early in the second half, West Brom got back their lead through Robson-Kanu’s toe-poke from close range. It was a contentious goal which made Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger furious at the touchline. Replays showed that James McLean was marginally offside during the build-up.
Dawson’s second goal was identical to his first, thumping an unstoppable header at the near post to seal the contest. The North London club lie at fifth with 50 points on the board. West Brom now have 43 points on the board and have done very well to stay at eighth.
Brief score:
- West Bromwich Albion 3 (Craig Dawson x 2, Hal Robson-Kanu) beat Arsenal 1 (Alexis Sanchez)
