Indian shooter Ankur Mittal won the gold medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation Shotgun World Cup in the double trap event at Acapulco, Mexico on Thursday.
Mittal beat Australian rival James Willet in the final as Mittal scored 75 out of a possible 80. In the six-man final, Mittal won India’s first medal in the competition while Willet managed 73.
The 24-year-old from Delhi came second in the qualifying round after he scored 138 out of 150. In the final round, Mittal missed five targets, including two in his last 40 to equal the world record and finish with a score of 75. Willet missed seven targets while the Chinese Ying Qi won bronze, shooting a score of 52.
The men’s and women’s skeet shooting disciplines are yet to take place and will be held over the weekend. Rashmee Rathore will be India’s sole competitor in the women’s skeet event while Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, Man Singh and Amrinder Cheema will feature in the men’s skeet category.
