Mohun Bagan piled on the misery over struggling champions Bengaluru FC, who put in another toothless display to succumb to a 0-3 loss at the Rabindra Sarobar.
Amrinder Singh’s howler gifted Mohun Bagan a goal as the keeper was unable to keep Katsumi Yusa’s drive out. Bengaluru were unable to mount a challenge and they went further behind well before the half-time whistle as Darryl Duffy calmly slotted home from close range – the goal was set up by an excellent free-kick from Sony Norde.
Bengaluru’s attackers continued to struggle and so did their midfield, who were unable to hold on to possession and dictate the tempo in the game.
Katsumi Yusa’s second was the best goal of the game, finding the narrowest of spaces and tucking the ball home with a quality finish. CK Vineeth was unable to make an impact with his forward runs and Sandesh Jhingan was surprisingly shaky at the back.
Yusa could have got a hat-trick 15 minutes before time but skewed his shot from inside the box well over the bar. The Japanese, though, was an ever-present figure across the pitch with his energy and committment.
The Kolkata giants are at third with 26 points but have played a game lesser thatn title rivals Aizawl FC and East Bengal. Bengaluru lie at fifth with 18 points.
Brief score:
- Mohun Bagan 3 (Katsumi Yusa x 2, Darryl Duffy) beat Bengaluru FC 0
