India pacer Ishant Sharma was snapped up by 2014 finalists Kings XI Punjab a day before the start of the Indian Premier League’s tenth edition, according to PTI on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old went unsold in the IPL auctions after setting a base price of Rs 2 crore. KXIP will be the fifth franchise Sharma will be playing for in 10 seasons, having also played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rising Pune Supergiant previously.
Sharma’s displays with the ball in the three Tests he played in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar series against Australia received widespread praise despite picking up just three wickets. The lanky bowler had a forgettable outing in the IPL last season, picking up just three wickets in the four matches he played for the newly-formed RPS, which came at an economy rate of 9.86. He was subsequently released by the franchise.
