It was the AB de Villiers show alright in Indore on Monday but it wasn’t enough for Royal Challengers Bangalore. An inspired Kings XI Punjab easily chased down 148 to make it two in two in the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League.

  • AB de Villiers unbeaten 89 was the second-highest score in a losing cause for Royal Challengers Bangalore after captain Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100 against Gujarat Lions in 2016. It’s also the highest score for AB de Villiers in a losing cause in Twenty20 cricket.
  • In the Indian Premier League, De Villiers has a strike rate of 219.24 in the last five overs.
  • AB de Villiers also became the fourth batsman to hit 150 sixes in the IPL after Chris Gayle, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma.
  • In terms of deliveries remaining, this was Kings XI Punjab’s third-largest win in the IPL.
  • This is the second time in IPL history that Punjab have won their first two matches. They did so in 2014 and reached the final.
  • Glenn Maxwell also completed 1000 runs in the IPL at a strike rate of 164.75 in the course of his knock. Only Virender Sehwag has reached the mark at a higher strike rate of 165.56.
