Barcelona forward Neymar will miss the upcoming El Clasico after being handed a three-match ban after receiving two yellow cards during his side’s shock 2-0 defeat to Malaga.
He was given a one-game ban for his two bookable offences. He, however, attracted a further two-match ban under La Liga rules for sarcastically applauding the fourth official as he left the field.
Neymar was first booked for obstructing Malaga from taking a free-kick, while the second was for a late challenge on Roberto Rosales.
Barcelona play Real Sociedad this weekend before taking on Real Madrid the weekend after on April 23. They then face off against Osasuna.
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is also in danger of missing the marquee clash after picking up four yellow cards so far this La Liga season. He could attract a one-match suspension if he is cautioned during Real’s next Liga game, away to Sporting de Gijón this weekend.
