Trevor Morgan has resigned from his post as East Bengal’s coach, making way for former manager Armando Colaco, Sportstar reported on Monday.

Pressure had mounted on the 60-year-old to resign following a torrid spell that saw the club lose four games on the trot including a defeat against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan. The Kolkata giants are currently in third place in the I-League behind Bagan and Aizawl, but are out of contention for the title.

Under Morgan’s tutelage, East Bengal had reached the quarter-finals of the 2013 AFC Cup with an unbeaten record.

Incidentally, his replacement, Colaco, was also in charge of the club in 2015. He considered to be one of Indian football’s most successful coaches.

“I am coming to Kolkata day after tomorrow,” Colaco was quoted as saying by Goal. “I will be on the bench for the last two games. It will be a very tough job but I am ready to give it a try.”

The 63-year-old was previously at the helm of affairs at Dempo. Under Colaço, Dempo became the first Indian club to reach the semi-finals of the AFC Cup in 2008. he also led them to three I-League titles in 2007-’08, 2009-’10 and 2011-’12.

He was coach of the Indian national team for six games, but could only lead them to victory in one match before vacating the post.
