Bayern Munich goal-keeper Manuel Neuer has been ruled out for the rest of the season after fracturing his foot during his side’s 6-3 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night, The Independent reported.
Neuer sustained the injury as Ronaldo scored his third goal in extra time. Despite the injury, the 31-year-old completed the entire match that the Bundesliga champions eventually lost despite having levelled the tie 2-1 at the end of normal time.
“Sadly, Manuel Neuer suffered a fracture in his left foot during Real Madrid’s game with Bayern Munich and is set for a lengthy spell out,” Bayern announced on social media. “Get well soon, Manu!”
Ronaldo scored two goals in extra-time and completed a hat-trick, with Marco Asensio scoring a fourth to complete the win.
Bayern are currently placed on top of the Bundesliga table and lead RB Liepzig by seven points with five games to go.
