Vinod Rai, the chief of the Supreme Court-mandated Committee of Administrators of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, called on former Indian cricketing legends to do their bit to improve the administration of the game in this country, at an event in Mumbai on Friday.

Speaking at a book launch, Rai praised the current Indian cricket team for being “aggressive” and “dedicated”. He was quoted to have said, “We go to see these matches because cricketers perform remarkably on the ground. We need to ask ourselves if we are providing them with the right support in terms of logistics, administration. All that you must be reading in the newspapers is unfortunate and I don’t think we are doing good service to the excellent team we have.”

Rai also added, “There are legends like Kapil (Dev), Sourav (Ganguly), Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar who in some ways need to mentor these people and also speak up and ensure that cricket administration in this country improves”.

Regarding the present uncertainity over whether India will participate in the upcoming Champions Trophy in June, the current COA chief tried to assuage fears by stating that there was no cause for concern and that a decision will be taken after the BCCI’s special general meeting on May 7.

“It’s a hypothetical question. Let the SGM decide first, then we’ll see,” said Rai, according to Indian Express. “I have requested the acting president, the acting secretary to convene an SGM. It’s been convened. It’s on May 7.”
