Hashim Amla had to watch yet again as his fabulous 104 off 60 balls went in a losing cause for the second time this season in the Indian Premier League as the Gujarat Lions chased down Kings XI Punjab’s 189/3 in Mohali on Sunday. Rarely does a batsman score a century in a Twenty20 match and be on the losing side but it has happened twice in one season for Amla.
Here are the key stats of the match:
- Hashim Amla’s 104 off 60 balls was his second century this Indian Premier League season. Only two other batsmen have scored more than one century in an IPL season: Chris Gayle scored two centuries in the 2011 edition and Virat Kohli scored four centuries in 2016.
- Amla also became only the seventh overseas batsman to score multiple centuries in the IPL. The other batsmen on the list are Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, David Warner, Brendon McCullum, Shane Watson and Adam Gilchrist.
- Unfortunately, Amla also created a record he will not be very happy about. He is the first batsmen with two centuries in a losing cause for the IPL. Seven other batsmen have scored a century in a losing cause once.
Amla is the first batsman with 2 centuries in losing causes in IPL.
