In the end, it turned out to be just picture-perfect for Garbine Muguruza, the 14th seed, who lifted her maiden Venus Rosewater Dish beating Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0 at Wimbeldon on Saturday.
The Spaniard had made the rounds of the Second Saturday once before in 2015, when she had gone on to lose a tight three-setter against Serena Williams. Two years on, playing in her third Major final, the former French Open champion Muguruza had returned back to Centre Court as a more seasoned player. And her experience showed as she held her nerve and outplayed the five-time Wimbledon champion.
