India’s sports ministry also saw the exit of Vijay Goel with former Olympic athlete Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore taking over as Sports Minister in the Indian government’s cabinet reshuffle in New Delhi on Monday.
The 47-year-old Rathore won silver in the double trap shooting event during the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. He also won multiple gold and silver medals during the Commonwealth and Asian Games. Rathore gets independent charge of the sports ministry. Twitter welcomed the moved with former Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra wishing him ‘All the best’ and also coined the decision as delightful.
Goel, who was earlier the sports minister, will now be minister of state for sports. He will also be minister of state for parliamentary affairs and statistics and programme implementation.
Delighted to see @Ra_THORe is the new sports minister . All the very very best !
