India’s Rutuja Bhosale picked up the International Tennis Federation title in the $15,000 tournament in Hua Hin, Thailand on Saturday. Bhosale, ranked 738 in the world, defeated Taiwan’s Hua-Chen Lee in the final 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 in two hours and 41 minutes.
Bhosale converted seven of the 16 break points that came her way and saved 10 of the 17 break points she faced on her serve. She won around 50% points on her first serves to Lee’s 52% and converted around 53% points off her second serves to her opponent’s 48%. The 21-year-old finished the match with 104 points even as her opponent won 103 points.
This was the second ITF singles title of Bhosale’s career. Her first title, which also came in 2017, was at the $15,000 tournament in Aurangabad in June played on outdoor clay.
In doubles, Bhosale and her Australian teammate Alexandra Walters lost in the final to the all-Indian team of Zeel Desai and Pranjala Yadlapalli. The second-seeded Indo-Australian pair were defeated in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.
