Fifa 18, the latest edition of the popular sports simulation video game series could potentially run into some trouble in India. The game, developed and published by Electronic Arts, reportedly shows the wrong map of India with the northernmost state of Jammu and Kashmir missing.
One of the new features in Fifa 18 is the Squad Battles mode, which is an online game mode where gamers can build the best available team. In Squad Battles mode, different AI Ultimate Teams are available for players to play against and it is here that the Indian map error was first noticed, according to an article on Sportskeeda.
The image shows the Indian map with the tricolour, but with the state of Jammu and Kashmir missing. The issue of erroneous India map has been a bone of contention in the country, with websites even being banned for it.
A screenshot of said image was shared on Imgur.
The individual who spotted the map and wrote the article on Sportskeeda writer has even started an online petition on Change.org to get to EA Sports to take down that Indian map without Kashmir. This will then sent to Google and EA Sports, continues the report.
The draft Geospatial Information Regulation Bill 2016 stipulates a fine of up to Rs 100 crore and seven years in jail for anyone whose depiction of India on a map does not match the government’s. Last year, Facebook apologised for showing Jammu and Kashmir as a part of China in a map.
Fifa 18 is set to hit the stores on 29th September, featuring Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo on the cover.
