The India ‘A’ men’s hockey team lost 3-2 to New South Wales in their bronze medal play-off match as their Australian Hockey League campaign in Perth came to an end on Sunday, PTI reported.
India scored two early goals through Simranjeet Singh and Affan Yousuf to take a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. India were ruthless from the get go with another six attempts at the NSW goal.
However, a drop in tempo and a complacent approach cost India dearly as New South Wales made an inspiring comeback after half-time.
Tom Craig was on target to register New South Wales’ first goal in the third quarter. This was the opening the Australian state team needed. They dominated possession from there on and kept the Indian defenders on their toes.
In the fourth quarter, within a span of two minutes, Simon Orchard and Lachlan Sharp scored two fine goals to take a decisive lead.
