Pacer Ishant Sharma has been released from the India Test side currently playing the first match of the three-Test series against Sri Lanka in Kolkata.
Ishant will take part in Delhi’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Maharashtra to be played at the Airforce Complex ground, Palam in New Delhi from Friday.
The 29-year-old was not picked in the playing XI for the opening Test. However, he will rejoin the squad for the second game in Nagpur.
“Ishant will be reaching Delhi by evening and he will be leading the side. Rishabh Pant will be his deputy,” Delhi team manager Shankar Saini was quoted as saying by PTI.
As per the policy of Indian team management for the past few years, players who are not part of playing XI are sent back to play first-class cricket to keep them match ready.
