Teenage prodigy R Praggnanandhaa was fourth in the Lidums Australian Young Masters standings after the second round in Adelaide on Sunday.
The 12-year-old, who’s vying to become the world’s youngest Grandmaster in the tournament, drew with the 26-year-old French Grandmaster Adrien Demuth.
In his first round, he beat Australia’s Moulthun Ly, 26. After two rounds, he’s scored 1.5 points.
The event consists of nine games and Praggnanandhaa has to score at least seven points in order to score his second GM norm. He’s slated to play Russia’s Vasily Papin in the third round.
Sergey Karjakin of Russia holds the record for being the youngest GM at 12 years and seven months in 2002. In 2016, Praggnanandhaa became the youngest International Master at 10 years, 10 months, and 19 days.
