Abhinav Bindra announced on Friday that he will be stepping down as the National Observer for shooting and Chairman of Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Athlete Identification Committee, with immediate effect.
Citing that he will be increasingly involved in private projects, Bindra said he would like to avoid any conflict of interest in a letter to the Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
Recently, Olympic medallists boxer MC Mary Kom and wrestler Sushil Kumar also resigned from their respective National Observer’s post.
Statement from Bindra:
“New year’s come with exciting new prospects. Will be looking to expand and run Abhinav Bindra Targeting performance centres across the country and make them accessible to our athletes. Will be resigning public posts of Govt Observer shooting and Chairman TOP Scheme Athlete Identification Committee with immediate effect. I thank the Sports Ministry for the opportunity provided to serve. I will always remain accessible to any fellow athlete and look forward to what 2018 holds.”
