India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan made another step towards playing in the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time after beating France’s Gleb Sakharov 6-4, 7-6 in second round on Saturday.

The qualifiers were postponed for two days due to heavy rain in Melbourne. In his earlier qualifying game, Ramkumar came back from a set and 3-5 down to beat American Bradley Klahn 6-7(6-8), 7-6(7-3), 6-2 in the two hours and seven minutes .

On Friday, Yuki Bhambri was in fine form as he overpowered Carlos Taberner 6-0, 6-2 in just under an hour to reach the final qualifying round. The top-ranked Indian singles player breezed through winning 74% of his first serve points and 82% on second serve, converting six out of eight break points. Ramkumar and Bhambri play their final qualifying games on Sunday.
