Liverpool versus Manchester City contests over the years have produced many Premier League classics but Sunday’s encounter may have just risen to the top of the podium. This edge-of-the-seat clash at Anfield, which saw City’s 30-match unbeaten streak in the league draw to a close, was hailed for its thrilling attacking play, and the clinical finishing in front of goal.
The defending, though, from both sides, left a lot to be desired. While Liverpool, lead by the irresistible Mohamed Salah, continue to find the back of the net for fun, their back-line continues to be under the scanner.
The fans from other Premier League clubs breathed a huge sigh of relief. Before this fixture kicked off, there was not a single side who weren’t taken to the cleaners by Pep Guardiola’s rampant squad. The Arsenal fans, who were still licking their wounds after hearing about star forward Alexis Sanchez’s impending exit, and a 1-2 loss to Bournemouth, had something to smile about. Arsene Wenger’s side from 2003-’04 will continue to be the only side in the Premier League era who will be called the “Invincibles”.
