On Wednesday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rahul Johri said that the Indian cricket board has convinced all other boards that there will hardly be any international cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) window, reported The Times of India.
This put an end to the rumours of ICC’s Future Tours and Programme (FTP) and slotting of international matches during the IPL period. TOI had reported that BCCI was trying to convince all cricket-playing nations to keep a bilateral-free window during the months of April and May from 2019 onwards.
“The other boards understand the opportunity of the IPL. They want their players to be available. In the FTP from 2019, there’s virtually no or very little international cricket during that period in the calendar. Our endeavor is to overcome even that little international cricket. That is testimony to the strength of the IPL,” said Johri.
India players in other leagues
The other pressing issue BCCI had to deal the demand of Indian players to participate in T20 leagues across the world excluding the IPL. “Everyone would like the Indian players in their leagues too. But if we allow our domestic players then our domestic cricket will be harmed. For the health of global cricket, a strong India is very important. Everybody understands the position of BCCI,” Johri said.
