Wrapping up

‘When we scored 198 we were quite confident but as a bowling unit we didn’t bowl dot balls, we need to do better as a bowling unit’: Harmanpreet Kaur

And that’s what happens when an inning like the one Wyatt just played, happens. Madness. Such clean-striking! Jaw-dropping stuff from the England opener. As it stands, it’s another defeat for India as the home season is off to a poor start. Stay tuned for reactions and analysis as our correspondent Zenia D’Cunha brings you the latest from this game.

Until tomorrow... hope you enjoyed our coverage!

End of the match - England 199/3 in 18.4 overs: Danni Wyatt can’t finish it off for England but she gets plenty of appreciation for her 64-ball 124 and Heather Knight hits the winning runs. India’s 198/4 *was* the second highest T20I total, it turns out. England chase it down with alarming ease, thanks to a brilliant century by

After 16 overs, England 174/2: CENTURY and more! Danielle Wyatt is on FIRE at the Brabourne.. gets to her second T20I century off just 52 balls. And continues on her merry way after that as well. A six and a four to celebrate her century.

After 14 overs, England 151/1: Wow, this could actually end in a hurry. 15 runs off Anuja Patil’s over followed by 7 off Jhulan’s. Beaumont not taking it easy on India either, with a big six in Patil’s over.

After 12 overs, England 129/1: The visitors are cruising in this run-chase and it’s supposed to be a world record! Wyatt has moved on to 93 off 47 balls thanks largely to a big 11th over - three boundaries conceded by Vastrakar, two of them to Wyatt. Beaumont almost cleans up Vastrakar with a full-blooded straight drive. 7 runs from Deepti in the 12th over and that’s really the best India can hope for at this stage. Nothing going their way.

After 10 overs, England 107/1: Well, well. Danielle Wyatt is on course for another rapid T20I century after her match-winning effort in Australia not too long ago. Back-to-back sixes off Poonam Yadav, she’s raced to 72 off 35 balls at the end of the 9th over. Deepti comes on in the 10th and Wyatt hits another boundary over extra cover. she is making this look easy, batting on 82 off 40 balls.

After 8 overs, England 80/1: This is the phase that could decide which way this match will swing. If Wyatt and Co can continue to dominate Indian spinners after the powerplay we might well be on track for a world-record run-chase. Just 5 runs from Poonam Yadav’s first over, 8 from Harmanpreet’s over at the other end.

After 6 overs, England 67/1 - Goswami strikes: Jhulan Goswami provides the breakthrough (it ever was thus) as Bryony tries to be cheeky and play the scoop, hits it on the stump instead.

Meanwhile in that over: Fifty for Wyatt! It has taken just 23 balls for the England opener. What a powerplay for England!

After 5 overs, England 59/0 - Danielle Wyatt on fire! The swashbuckling England opener has been in incredible form of late (remember that innings against Australia recently in the Ashes T20?) and she has dismantled Vastrakar in that over. Two fours - one over mid-on and one past short third - and a straight six! She has raced to 45 off 21 balls.

After 4 overs, England 44/0: Wow, this is some start by the English ladies. The ball is being smashed to all parts of the ground. Bryony spoils what was a decent first over by Vastrakar with a last ball four - just 6 still from that over. No stopping Wyatt at the other end though as she hits Patil for a couple of boundaries.

After 2 overs, England 26/0: Danielle Wyatt has started with great intent! First six of the run-chase and it’s over extra cover off Anuja Patil. 13 from the 2nd over.

After 1 over, England 13/0: If England are going to make this run-chase tight, they need a good start. And a good start is what they get. Danielle Wyatt with 3 boundaries off Jhulan Goswami’s first over - two through the offside, one over mid-on.

Innings break: Indian batters have stepped up big time in a crunch match. With four defeats (across formats) in a row, they needed to make a statement today and they have amassed 198/4 in 20 overs which is comfortably the highest score for India in T20s. It’s also the second highest score in women’s T20Is of all time, 7 behind South Africa’s 205. Time for the bowlers to back Mandhana & Co.

End of India’s innings - 198/4 after 20 overs: Take a bow, Pooja Vastrakar! Taking a cue from Harmanpreet’s boundaries in the previous over, young Vastrakar targets the vacant offside boundary region with three fours and one hit through midwicket. India finish with the second highest score in women’s T20I history.

End of over 19 | India 181/4 - Harmanpreet Kaur’s cameo ends: After 3 fours in a row - all over extra cover, going inside out - Harmanpreet Kaur misses a full delivery while going for the slog sweep. A 22-ball 30 for the Indian captain and she has given India a final push. Last over coming up...

End of Over 18 | IND 166/3 - big over for India: That’s more like! Harmanpreet Kaur starts off the 18th over with a big six over midwicket. Gunn’s over results in 13 runs with Vastrakar (promoted way up!) getting a couple of twos at the end.

End of Over 17 | IND 153/3 - Veda dismissed: Two new batters at the crease it shows. Jenny Gunn bowls a 5-run 16th over. Understandable they are taking an over before teeing off - but it doesn’t happen in the next over either as Eccelstone forces Veda to cut a quick delivery that kisses the off stump. 11 runs in the last two overs, and with 3 overs to go, India need to take off now.

End of Over 15 | IND 142/2: Fifty and out for Mithali Raj! Gets to the landmark in 40 balls. She was in good form in South Africa in the shortest format and she has carried that on today. Soon after, she tries to clear long on, but Jenny Gunn is not the easiest fielder to clear on the boundary line and she takes a good high catch.

It’s up to Harmanpreet, Veda and the rest now to make most of the start.

End of Over 14| IND 135/1 Little risks taken by Mithali and Harmanpreet during the over as Heather Knight brings back spin the over in the form of Ecclestone. Just five singles from it and Mithali is edging close to a half-century. She continues to use her feet at will.

End of Over 13| IND 130/1 “What a spectacle,” cries Isa Guha as Mandhana heaves Sciver to the deep mid-wicket fence. But the commentator’s curse strikes her as England finally get a breather. Mandhana cuts a full delivery but the ball only goes as far as gully, where Tammy Beaumont stumbled but held to the ball with her chest. Harmanpreet Kaur has arrived at the crease.

S Mandhana c Beaumont b Sciver 76 (40)

End of Over 12| IND 119/0 Oh Heather! This is turning out be a nightmare for her side, who have absolutely no idea how to stop this duo. Mithali played a delicate late cut to get another boundary early in the over. Mandhana finishes the over by once again stepping out and adding four more to the total. It doesn’t matter if Knight places five of her teammates at the boundary, Mandhana still might find the boundary. She is into her 70s now.

End of Over 11| IND 108/0 There is no stopping Mandhana. Knight may as well try give all her teammates to roll their arm. Dani Wyatt is the latest to be taken to the cleaners and she starts off by bowling three full-tosses, two of which were deposited to the boundary. Dropped, Mithali Raj’s scoop over cover presented England with a chance but Tammy Beaumont could not latch on to the ball.

End of Over 10| IND 96/0 Social media is going abuzz with Mandhana’s knock. Typically, some Virender Sehwag and Shikhar Dhawan comparions. India continue to show attacking intent and the highlight of the Heather Knight over was the batters completing a three – a refreshing change in attitude while running between the wickets.

End of Over 9| IND 88/0 Repreive for Nat Sciver hits the stumps with a direct hit. Mandhana thought she was out for a second but replays showed that she had just about made it after being sent back by Mithali. The senior pro, though, has settled in nicely and plays an aggressive pull shot to the deep mid-wicket fence. But Mandhana’s tryst with lofted drives continue and she brings up her fifty with a boundary to long-off. Fifty up and it has taken her just 25 balls. Mithali piles more misery on Jenny Gunn with an authoritative heave to the long-off fence, another boundary and the Indians are cruising.

End of Over 8| IND 74/0 Heather Knight brings herself on but is unable to stem the flow of boundaries. I’m not going to be left behind, says Mithali, who brings up another boundary with a slick sweep shot. Seven from the over.

End of Over 7| IND 67/0 Ecclestone now feels the wrath of Mandhana’s blade and the runs keep on coming. First, she gets a boundary with a delicate cut shot that beat short-third. She then added one more six to her tally by stepping out and carting the ball back over the bowler’s head. The last ball of the over saw her get a lucky inside edge, but the misery for England continues as the ball trickled to the fence. Mandhana has blazed her way to 47 and it has just taken her 22 balls.

End of Over 6 | IND 52/0 More bowling changes and Nat Sciver is into the attack but Mandhana continues to bludegon the bowlers. For a change, she targets the leg side this time, lofting a full and a short ball to the deep mid-wicket fence. Pressure on Sciver as she chases Mandhana down the leg side but ends up bowling a full toss and this time, it’s behind square for the third boundary in a row. The southpaw is in the form of her life and is making batting look really easy.

End of Over 5 | IND 39/0 Spin introduced in the form of Sofie Eccelstone and immediately, she puts the brakes on the scoring by bravely tossing the ball up and not allowing the batters to free their arms. Good bowling under pressure from the teenager and India manage just three singles from the over.

End of Over 4 | IND 36/0 George struggles with her rhythm and the Mandhana show has kicked into gear. A wide was followed by a trademark loft over mid-off for a boundary. The bowler once again over-pitched and she was hammered down the ground for the first six of the game. It went from bad to worse for George, who found little luck with the slower delivery too as Mandhana cleverly disected the gap behind square to get another boundary from a fuller one. 20 from the over!

End of Over 3 | IND 16/0 India up and away, finally. Pitched slightly short by Farrant and Mithali latches onto it in a flash, lofting the ball over cover for a boundary. She got a boundary on the leg side too with a powerful drive that beat mid-wicket and raced to the fence. Farrant, though, impressed with her slower deliveries.

End of Over 2 | IND 8/0 Another left-armer, Katie George almost gets rid of Mandhana, who goes for a wild heave on the off side when offered a tinge of width. Luckily, the ball fell short of the third-man fielder. The right-left comnbination, though, upset George’s rhythm as she bowled a couple of wides during the over. The youngster, though, much like Farrant, got decent movement off a good length.

End of Over 1 | IND 2/0 Solid start for left-armer Tash Farrant, who bowls wicket-to-wicket and gets a nice shape – going away from the left hander – but she almost ruins that with a wayward wide delivery down the leg side. The bowler was lucky to have not gone for runs there. Mithali Raj and Mandhana are off the mark. Typically cautious India at the end of the first over.

09:55 am: If India are looking for a good score to challenge the English batting lineup, they would do well to look for something more than 150, because that target was overcome with ease by Tammy Beaumont, Nat Sciver and Co. And for that, India will need more than just Smriti Mandhana to click at the top.
