India’s no 1 Saurav Ghosal on Wednesday made a spirited comeback to beat Scotsman Greg Lobban to move to the second round of British Open in Hull.

Ghosal won the opening game before Lobbon outplayed the world no 13 to move into the lead. However, the Indian veteran mounted a resounding comeback to win 11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-3 in the marathon 71-minute contest.

It was curtains for Joshna Chinappa who was stunned by Egyptian qualifier Yathreb Adel 7-11, 3-11, 10-12. Ghosal will now face Germany’s world no 6 Simon Rosner in the next round. Rosner comes into the contest on the back of a comprehensive straight-games win against England’s Declan James.
