India Grandmaster Srinath Narayanan clinched the Faroes Open 2018 after a ninth round draw against International Master Maksim Vavulin. This is Srinath’s second title in two months as he’d won the Kolkata Open in May.

Srinath was leading the pack with 6.5 points heading into the final round of the tournament that took place in Sandavagur, Faroe Islands. He just needed a draw against his Russian opponent to secure the title. Vavulin finished third in the tournament with 6 points as he couldn’t beat the Indian. Germany’s Vitaly Kunin and England’s Gawain Jones shared the second spot with 6.5 points each.

Srinath had a slow start in the tournament and took the lead only after the sixth round. However, he remained undefeated during the course of the tournament. In the eighth round, he held off a tough challenge from one of the tournament favourites Normunds Miezis of Latvia.
