India’s Soundarya Pradhan won the silver medal at the World Junior for Blind and Visually Impaired 2018, creating a new record for India. His achievement in the tournament held in Solec Zdroj in Poland is the best ever performance by an Indian at the world juniors for the visually challenged, according to Chessbase India.
The previous best belonged to Darpan Inani had won the bronze at World Juniors 2013.
Pradhan, who hails from Odisha, has been 100% blind since birth. According to the chess portal, the Indian is also a ranker in academics and studies in National Institute of Technology (NIT).
The All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB) said that Pradhan won the Hyderabad FIDE Rating Open Chess tournament for the blind in 2012 and the Kolkata FIDE Rating Open Chess tournament for the blind in 2013
