11.30 pm: Well, that brings to an end an entertaining game of cricket. Credit to Bangladesh, for what was a superb campaign overall. They gave India a real scare too. But in the end, India were just too good in all three departments. Join us on Wednesday for a cracking game between England and New Zealand.

Mashrafe Mortaza (via ESPNCricinfo): “If one of the partnerships could have been 80-90, it could have been a different match, but 47-50 is asking a bit much. We could have had a bit more luck, but Shakib Al Hasan has been in superb form, and Mushfiq has batted beautifully. Rohit’s catch was obviously disappointing, but those things happen in the field.”

Virat Kohli: “Bangladesh have played some really good cricket in this tournament. Even till the last ball was bowled, they fought hard. For us, it’s good to see the Q next to our name. I have been watching him for years now and I have said before, he’s the best One-Day player around and we are so delighted to see him have the tournament of his life. When he plays like that, everybody is happy. His overs were always going to be crucial, so that’s why we stopped him after four initially. Not an easy shot off Bumrah, but then that went to the boundary like a tracer bullet. Fifty for the all-rounder, comes off just 37 balls.

The Tigers are not giving up. They are showing great intent. A boundary down the ground by Rubel as he slams Bumrah’s full ball and holds his pose too! 8 runs from that over.

SIX AND OUT! Mashrafe Mortaza slams down the ground for a six, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar comes back with the wicket, getting the Bangladesh captain to outside edge one to Dhoni. Good catch by the former Indian captain. A terrific over by Bhuvi is then spoiled by a lovely cover drive by Saifuddin past long off. He retains strike too. Good cameo this (38 off 30, at the moment).

After 45 overs, Bangladesh 251/7 - 64 needed off 36 balls

WICKET! Who else but Bumrah! Kohli needs a breakthrough, who does he call? Jasprit Bumrah... (say that in the Ghostbusters tune) A delightful off-cutter deceives Sabbir, who was looking dangerous. Follows that up with a couple of lovely yorkers to Mortaza and Saifuddin. 250 comes up in that over.

After 43 overs, Bangladesh 245/6 - 70 needed off 42 balls

Can Bhuvi justify his selection today? He comes in for a final burst of three overs and mixes up the slower deliveries and yorkers. The yorker to Sabbir was a thing of beauty. This is top bowling from Bhuvi despite bowling two wides (one very harsh!) An array of slower ones too. “This is where he is better than Shami,” says Dada on air. Five runs from that over including two wides. Good stuff.

After 42 overs, Bangladesh 240/6 - 75 needed off 48 balls

Shami comes back into the attack and Saifuddin hits two more boundaries! Well, well. First is lofted over mid-off, next targets the shorter boundary with a cross-bat shot. Pressure on India?

“We are getting to a stage aren’t we, where Kohli would be thinking... oh, come on!” Indeed, Mark Nicholas. Indeed!

After 41 overs, Bangladesh 229/6 - 86 needed off 54 balls

Partnership between Sabbir and Saifuddin: 50 runs off 46 balls (almost 7 an over). Good over by Chahal though as he concedes just three singles and a wide. Sabbir was floored trying to play the sweep and Dhoni was waiting like a hawk to see if his feet will go up! Boss.

After 40 overs, Bangladesh 225/6 - 90 needed off 60 balls

Pandya comes on to bowl his final over... and Saifuddin hits a crunching pull shot for four. That flew to the boundary line in no time. Pandya finishes his spell with three slower balls and that sums up his night. Three dot balls. Effective bowling and smart thinking. His figures: 3/60 in 10 overs.

Sabbir and Saifuddin, though, have put on 46 in 6.1 overs!

After 39 overs, Bangladesh 219/6 - Bumrah back on the field!

But it’s another good over for Bangladesh. This is a superb little partnership now. A top edge off Chahal clears Bumrah at short fine leg for four to start that over. Sabbir then finishes the over with a crunching sweep shot. Two boundaries.

Bangladesh are fighters alright... they are not just going to give this up without a fight. Shami’s over starts with two boundaries for Sabbir and then Saifuddin, the left-hander, smacks two more. Shami continues to leak runs at the death. 17 runs from that over!

Chahal returns and concedes just one run in the over. Time for Shami at the other end.

After 36 overs, Bangladesh 190/6 - Bumrah with a scare!

Every Indian fan would have skipped a beat as Bumrah put in a dive at the boundary line and failed to get up immediately. (WHY BUMRAH WHY?!?!) Sabbir pulled one through square leg, the ball went for four. He is off the field now...the physio had to run and make sure he is fine. Let’s see what the update is!

After 33.5 overs, Bangladesh 179/6 - SHAKIB’S GONE!

HARDIK PANDYA, TAKE A BOW! Another slower ball, follows Shakib as he clears his legs, the ball stops on him and he lobs it to DK at cover. Shakib is out for 66 off 74 balls. This World Cup has seen the next stage in Hardik Pandya’s evolution as an all-rounder: a bankable 10-over bowler.

After 32.2 overs, Bangladesh 173/5 - BUMRAH STRIKES!

Mossadek was struggling to pick up the cutters on this slow pitch and he eventually falls for one from Bumrah. A superb off-cutter, Mossadek plays on to the stumps. Bumrah, as he almost always does, comes back around the 30-over mark and provides Kohli a wicket. What a bowler!

Time for a drinks break as the game slips away from Bangladesh...

After 32 overs, Bangladesh 172/4 - Shakib 65, Mossadek 3

Pandya almost has another wicket, as a slower bouncer is bottom-edged back to the ‘keeper but it dies on Dhoni. Three singles in that over otherwise.

After 31 overs, Bangladesh 169/4 - Shakib 62, Mossadek 2

Shakib throws his bat at a wide ball from Bumrah, round the stumps. The edge flies to the boundary for four. Six runs from that Bumrah over as he responds to that boundary with a superb slow yorker.

A wicket falls and Kohli is quick to bring on Bumrah...aggressive captaincy.

After 30 overs, Bangladesh 163/4 - LITON OUT!

SIX-DOT-OUT! Hardik Pandya has really impressed with his short-ball bowling in this World Cup! After being hit for a six down the ground by one of the shots of the day, Hardik hurries Liton with a bouncer... a mishit pull is taken safely by DK. Pandya has been fairly impactful with the ball in this World Cup, exceeding our expectations so far at least.

After 29 overs, Bangladesh 156/3 - Shakib 57, Liton 16

Without a boundary hit, nine runs come off the Bhuvi over. Shakib also survives a runout chance as he puts in a superb dive. Ganguly is full of praise for the desperation shown... and the energy to complete the double.

Fifty for Shakib al Hasan! What a tournament he is having.

A four through cover off Pandya (thanks to a bad bounce for DK) and then creams one through cover point for a single to bring up his 6th 50-plus score of the World Cup. What a player.

After 27 overs, Bangladesh 139/3 - Shakib 43, Liton 13

Three twos in the Bhuvi over for Liton Das and Kohli is unhappy with the second of those. The right-hander tapped the ball to mid-off and took off, Bumrah fired a throw in that missed the stumps and goes to fine leg. Shami is very lethargic with his backing up and Liton takes two. Poor effort.

Chahal bowling with much more zip now and concedes just 2 in the 25th over. Funny how a wicket can change things around for a bowler. The Bangladesh batsmen take six runs off Shami’s over next.

Shami returns to the bowling attack... and concedes just four runs. Shakib al Hasan has now made sure that his lowest score at this World Cup will remain 41.

After 23 overs, Bangladesh 121/3 - RAHIM GONE!

CHAHAL IS DELIGHTED! He has something to celebrate at Edhgbaston finally. Rahim had just cut Chahal for a four past short third man... and its a mark of his self-confidence that Chahal does not hesitate the flight the ball up and tease the batsman even under pressure. Rahim loves the sweep shot and he goes for it, Shami is stationed at square leg for just that. Ganguly is delighted with Kohli’s field placing too.

After 22 overs, Bangladesh 116/2 - Shakib 38, Rahim 20

9 runs from the Pandya over. Four off the first ball for Shakib and then singles off the other five deliveries. The four was a superb cut shot past point that raced away to the boundary line. He played plenty of those shots in that run-chase against West Indies too. Just a hint of width from Pandya from around the wicket, Shakib pounced on it.

Shakib now moves past 500 runs in the World Cup. First player to aggregate 500 runs & 10 wickets in a single World Cup. What a tournament he is having…

After 21 overs, Bangladesh 107/2 - Shakib 31, Rahim 18

“Bahut badiya,” says MS Dhoni as Chahal completes a three-run over. Almost deceived Shakib early in that over, as the Bangladesh batsman stepped down the track and misread the flight. Got an inside edge onto the pads though.

After 20 overs, Bangladesh 104/2 - Shakib 29, Rahim 17

100 comes up in the 20th over as Bangladesh have accelerated the rate steadily since the first powerplay. This run-chase is heading in the right direction for the Tigers. Six runs from Pandya’s over as Shakib brings out that cut shot of his to good effect. Sensible cricket.

After 19 overs, Bangladesh 98/2 - Shakib 25, Rahim 15

Back-to-back boundaries for Rahim, back-to-back big overs for Bangladesh! This time the right-hander takes on Chahal and plays a sweep past fine leg before a lofted slog over midwicket for two boundaries. Chahal is being put under some pressure. Remember, no sixth bowling option for India today. Chahal / Pandya have to bowl 10 each.

After 18 overs, Bangladesh 88/2 - Shakib 24, Rahim 6

Hardik continues and Shakib adds a streaky boundary to his tally. The batsmen rotate the strike well too, there are more cutters in that over as Pandya concedes 9.

Four runs from Chahal’s over... India won’t mind that; Chahal won’t mind that.

After taking the Sarkar catch, Kohli seemed to signal at the batsman and say ‘that one is out,’ as a send-off. The umpires had a chat with him afterwards. Nothing too serious, hopefully. Kohli has already earned a demerit point in this World Cup.

Bangladesh’s best batsmen are in the middle now. Meanwhile, the replays show it was actually a clever change of pace from Pandya. He has been good with his cutters through the World Cup and deserves some credit for that delivery (even if it really should have been put away for a boundary). Good first over.

Off his first legal delivery, Hardik Pandya strikes! No one can quite believe how soft that dismissal was. Short ball, wide off offstump, Sarkar just swats it straight to Virat Kohli at short cover and throws his start away.

Sarkar is looking in better touch now. Shami’s over starts and ends with a four. First ball, a length delivery is lofted down the ground. Last ball, swatted over extra cover as Pandya gives a chase in vain.

INDIA’S REVIEW GONE: A massive shout, a confident review but Soumya survives the LBW appeal. The TV umpire thought the ultra edge was inconclusive and didn’t take it forward to ball tracking. Kohli was not happy. Another silly case of cricket protocols. There was no conclusive evidence of an inside edge or otherwise... India lose a review when none of the umpires / technology had any idea what was going on. Kohli right to be upset there. There was a boundary in that over as well, as 50 came up for Bangladesh.

Interesting: Rishabh Pant has taken the gloves and pads. Dhoni has left the field.

Interesting call from Kohli as Bumrah takes just a couple of overs break and returns to the attack. Is it to target Shakib early in his innings? Shakib has the first laugh as he drives one superbly for four. Good over otherwise from Bumrah, coming from around the wicket.

Shami continues his wonderful wicket-taking run! That’s now 14 wickets in his fourth innings of this World Cup. strikes to send back Tamim. The ball seemed to keep a little low and the batsman got an inside edge back onto his stumps. Tamim shakes his head as he walks back, missed out after getting a start.

Four singles from that Bhuvi over... sensible batting this from the Bangladesh openers.

First boundary for Sarkar that he actually hit with hsi bat... as he slices a good length ball from Shami over point for four. Shami generating good pace but is it the right idea to start off around the wicket straight away? India seemed to have preferred that angle to Sarkar through and through. Must be the game-plan.

Four runs from the Bhuvi over. Tamim with a couple of doubles, the second of which was mishit but falls safely beyond the inner-circle.

Four overthrows! Hardik went for the direct hit and Chahal messes up the backing-up. Sarkar gets 5 added to his score. And an overthrow for four being added to the bowler’s tally is one of the most cruel things in cricket. Meanwhile, Bumrah’s giving the speed gun some work today. He is bringing down some serious heat. The fourth delivery of his 3rd over was clocked at 150 km/h. A searing bouncer was just parried by Dhoni to prevent four byes.

Bhuvi causes problems now for Tamim from over the wicket. The ball bouncing a little extra from good length? Some extra pace? 10 dot balls in a row before Tamim scampers through for a single. India are giving nothing away. Another good over.

He was hit for two boundaries in his first over and how does Bumrah respond? With a maiden over, of course. Around the wicket to Sarkar and causes him plenty of strife.. . the first ball was an absolute peach, angling in and then moving away. So close to the perfect dismissal.

Tamim loves the big stage. He smashes another one through the off-side. This time off Bhuvi, just a little bit of width and the left-hander smacks it with vengeance. He’s not letting the bad balls go.

After 2 overs, Bangladesh 9/0 - Tamim 9, Sarkar 0

Bumrah strays on Tamim’s pads and at his pace, a full length ball there is just bread and butter for Tamim. Flicked with ease, timed brilliantly, races to the midwicket fence for four. Bumrah goes around the wicket and Tamim now cuts a length ball through the vacant cover-point region. The Bangladesh veteran is up and running in style.

What a top over from Bhuvi to start off with. He’s a delight to watch when he gets the ball to move around. Starts off with over the wicket to Tamim, the ball going with the angle against the left-hander...finishes the over around the wicket to Sarkar and gets one to nip back in! Well defended too.

INNINGS BREAK: Bangladesh need 315 runs to win

KL Rahul once again (for the nth time!) talks about not converting a good score into a sizeable century. He is self-aware alright but where are the results going to come from? Anyway, India go from 180/0 after 29.1 overs to 314/9 in 50 overs. Kept losing wickets in regular intervals and fell short of a total they would have liked. Bangladesh are definitely in with a shout to win this now.

End of Indian innings: 314/9 after 50 overs

Bhuvi is run out off the penultimate delivery and then Shami is bowled off the last ball! Five-for for Mustafizur! What a bowler... he loves making his mark against India.

India 311/7 after 49.3 overs - DHONI GONE! Short of length, cutters... Dhoni denies a single off the first ball after hitting it to long off. Next ball is hit straight to mid-on. That’s followed by a slower bouncer and The Fizz has the last laugh! What a bowler. That’s just brilliant death bowling. No pace to work with, awkward length. Dhoni gone for a 33-ball 35. Another innings that’s going to be debated on social media? Sigh.

Dhoni takes on Saifuddin! Two boundaries in that over, both powerfully hit through the offside. A full ball, driven powerfully and then a brutal cut shot. 11 runs from that over as Dhoni retains strike.

What a superb over from The Fizz, just three runs and a wicket. Dhoni retains the strike. (Dhoni left a ball outside offstump in the 48th over. Trolls on Twitter have got nothing on him! He’s the Master Troller!)

India 298/6 after 47.2 overs: THE FIZZ strikes again! Another lovely off-cutter bouncer... dug into the pitch and still at a decent pace, to be honest, but the cutter makes it bounce extra and gets big on DK. The batsman pulls it straight to midwicket. Mustafizur has taken the Fizz out of India’s finish.

After 47 overs, India 297/5 - Dhoni 22, Karthik 8

Saifuddin (40 runs from his first five overs) comes back and does well to concede just singles off the first three balls. And then DK shows why he is one of the smartest cricketers around, but turning his bat-face to an attempted yorker and squeezes the ball behind square for four. Dhoni retains the strike, as 9 runs come from the over.

After 46 overs, India 288/5 - Dhoni 19, Karthik 2

The Fizz will bowl 46th, 48th and 50th. He starts off this over by conceding a boundary to Dhoni, who plays a trademark cut shot past point that just races away. A direct hit ricochets off the stump to give Dhoni an extra run off the next ball. Nine runs from the over as Mustafizur comes back well.

After 45 overs, India 279/5 - Dhoni 11, Karthik 1

What a sensational spell from Shakib, finishes with 1/41 off his 10 overs. And, on his way out, bowls a couple of peaches to DK. Top stuff.

Pant’s reaction says it all. But a good innings nonetheless.

India 277/5 after 44.1 overs: “Last over from Shakib, will Pant play him out?” No, he won’t. Goes for the sweep and finds the fielder at deep. Mossadek fumbles but takes the catch off the second attempt. Pant is livid with himself for playing that shot! What a spell this has been from Shakib.

After 44 overs, India 277/4 - Pant 48, Dhoni 10

Rubel starts off with an off-cutter that goes for four leg byes, not a great effort from Rahim. Pant then play and misses a couple of deliveries, as Dhoni has a word with the youngster. A single off the next ball. Rubel continues to bowl the cutters, the balling stopping on Dhoni, who finishes the over with a four behind square the moment there was pace on the ball! Rubel pays the price for not sticking to the cutters.

Shakib’s doing a superb job from one end of not letting the Indian batsmen get away. The low bounce combined with Shakib’s imparted slowness makes it difficult to put him away. (Jadeja really should have played this match!) Just three runs from that over.

This could be a superb battle in the death between The Fizz and Rishabh... it starts off with a four for the Indian batsman. On his pads, swatted away past the deep square leg fielder. Dhoni then picks up three with a well-timed push to mid-wicket. Meanwhile, Pant has already registered his highest ODI score now. 10 off the over.

After 41 overs, India 255/4 - Pant 38, Dhoni 3

Shakib comes in for another spell. Just four singles in that over. The Fizz has a change of ends as he comes back into the attack again, two overs after that double-wicket maiden.

PRESSURE? What’s that?! The audacity of Pant in full view! Most batsmen would want to take it easy after watching a double-wicket maiden at the other end. Rishabh Pant hits a hat-trick of fours! Saifuddin returns to the attack... Pant hits a cover drive, then a pull in front of square, followed by a rasping cut shot. THREE SUPERB SHOTS!

India 237/4 after 38.4 overs: The Fizz has two in four balls! Hardik Pandya is out for a duck... as he edges an off-cutter to Sarkar at the widish first slip. What an over! What a bowler!

India 237/3 after 38.2 overs: The Fizz strikes! VIRAT KOHLI’s GONE! The short-boundary that has been talked about so much proves to be Kohli’s undoing as he nails a pull shot but has no elevation on it. Rubel takes the catch and does the Afridi pose! Kohli walks back with a wry smile on his face.

Another elite sweep shot from Rishabh Pant, this time off the medium pace of Sarkar and to the left of short fine leg. He’s come out looking in good touch. 10 runs from that over as well.

We always associate Kohli with finesse but that’s not a word once uses to describe Pant. But, as the Indian captain played a delightful flick past long on for four, Pant follows that up with a delicate sweep. Two boundaries in the Shakib over.

An effortless flick past a static Mortaza at short midwicket fetches Kohli his 2nd boundary. Rubel’s medium pace is not working against the Indian captain, at least not yet. Maybe worthwhile bringing The Fizz back now for a short burst?

Mossadek to Rishabh Pant... starts off with a wide... then four dot balls that included one massive LBW appeal... and then Rishabh Pant decides to dance down the track and send the ball soaring over long on! What a hit. Reminded us of the shot he played to get off the mark in Test cricket. “Down comes Rishabh Pant, and away goes the cricket ball,” says Mark Nicholas. 200 comes up for India.

Such a bizarre innings from Rahul. A 92-ball 77 should usually mean the batsman showed a lot of confidence, looked impressive etc... but you get the feeling as he walks back that Rahul is still missing something in his batting. It’s tough to explain, no? OR is it just us being too critical? Anyway, Rubel bowls an off-cutter, Rahul plays a cut shot and Rahim takes a good catch. Earlier in the over, Kohli played a delightful straight drive for his first boundary.

Good follow-up over from Rubel to concede just three runs. You’d think the onus is now on Rahul to make the most of his decent start (he’s on 74 and still feels like he has played well within himself). Virat Kohli, meanwhile, would love a three-figure score to his, wouldn’t he?

The Indian openers treat Shakib with respect, taking just five singles in that over. Rohit moves to within one shot of a century.

Is the pitch already slowing down? Mossadek gets one to stop on Rahul and this is almost a replay of the dismissal against the pace of Woakes in the England match the other day. This does not carry though, by the looks of it.

FIFTY FOR KL RAHUL! A lovely straight drive by Rahul to welcome Rubel into the attack with a boundary. The opener then flicks one through midwicket and cashes in on a misfield to get to his half century. This one off 57 balls. Muted celebrations after that too, you could see he is keen on making this a big one. (Hopefully not *too* keen and be bogged down). Plays a lovely cover drive for four to finish the over on an elegant note.

Century partnership comes up between Rohit and Rahul as Mossadek comes into the attack to bowl his gentle (but effective) off-spin. Six runs from the over (four singles and a double for Rohit Sharma) without any risks. Sensible batting in the first over after a break.

Now Rahul takes on Mortaza, with a six over wide long on followed by a push through that same region for a three. India are accelerating again after a quite few overs. That six by Rahul was a reminder of the power he can pack in his shots.

Fifth fifty-plus score of the World Cup for Rohit and Tamim Iqbal must be feeling pretty sick about that dropped catch.

Sanjay Manjrekar continues to talk about how Rahul should really start to deliver on his promise now, when everyone is talking about the middle order. Mortaza concedes four runs (Rahim standing up to the stumps has made things difficult for Rohit and Rahul, as they seem hesitant to go forward with confidence).

Shakib is varying pace nicely again and keeping the run-flow in check. Rohit wanted to play the cut shot twice in the over and there was no pace to work with on both occasions. Just one run in that over. Good work from the two senior Bangladeshi bowlers.

Shakib coming into the attack. Time for a change of pace. Starts off with four dot balls, one of them turning just enough to beat Rohit’s outside edge. Just a single and wide in that over. Top start by Shakib, slowing it up nicely.

Mortaza returns after bowling just the one over (the first) and Rahul welcomes him back with an uppish off drive for four between the bowler and wide mid-off. Given Rahul was well down the track when he played that shot, Mortaza has Rahim come up to the stumps. Then drops one short to Rohit, who plays a lovely late cut for four.

A superb start to the innings for India, a far cry from their efforts against England in the run-chase.

Fifty partnership comes up between Rahul and Rohit with the latter playing a gorgeous cover drive. Nothing wrong with the delivery, this is all about the bat speed and presenting the full face. Races on this quick outfield. Next ball is wide and Rohit slashes it, past a diving third man fielder. This is already India’s best powerplay score at the World Cup. Another big over for India.

Back-to-back boundaries! KL Rahul is on the move... first is a gift from Saifuddin, full on his pads and flicked past fine leg. The next ball is a shot to sit back and admire. Driven on the up, with the body still in forward motion... leaning into it. Past extra cover for four. Gorgeous. Saifuddin’s radar a bit all over the place.

Slashed, slashed hard. Rohit throws his bat at a wide one, hits it over the slips ans past third man for four. “Another shot in anger,” says Ian Bishop who is convinced Rohit is out to right the wrongs of the other evening when India were far too passive in the first powerplay against England.

Intent from Rohit! Down the track against Saifuddin, the angled bat comes down with vengeance and the ball soars over the extra cover fence for a six. Compensation for the slow start against England? You’d think so. Rahul then drives one beautifully..... straight to the fielder.

Ashish Magotra: First, Mortaza started off with a poor over. Then, Shakib with a misfield. Finally, Tamim with the dropped catch. The Bangladesh veterans are letting their team down.

DROPPED! OH DEAR! Tamim Iqbal of all people. Rohit Sharma is sucked into playing the pull shot once again... but this is a superb cutter by The Fizz, banged into the pitch and Rohit has no timing on that. But Tamim Iqbal puts down a sitter at deep square leg. You cannot drop Rohit Sharma this early in an ODI innings! That could prove mighty costly. Three runs from that Fizz over.

Poor fielding effort by Shakib al Hasan at deep square leg as he lets a Rahul flick pass underneath him while diving... and Rahul has his first boundary. He’s striking at 50.0 now. Just that one boundary in the Saifuddin over.

A couple of singles behind point and one through fine leg. Three singles off a tidy Mustafizur over. As the next over starts, Bishop is talking to Ganguly about the 2007 World Cup match... that’s got to hurt for Dada.

2.58 pm: Apologies, the headline incorrectly said (briefly) that Jadeja was in the XI. He is not. Are you, like us, wondering why though?

2.54 pm: Time for national anthems... and the only instance in world cricket (quite certain) where both anthems are written by the same person.

2.52 pm: The wicket is expected to be similar to the one that the India-England match was played on. Kohli expects it to get slower and more difficult to bat while chasing. Mortaza said he would have liked to bat first too but sounded happy about the fact India are not chasing. Batting, to be fair, has been Bangladesh’s strength in this World Cup.

2.47 pm: What a day for Dinesh Karthik. He was part of the squad in the 2007 World Cup when Bangladesh stunned India (Dhoni was in the XI then). Now makes his World Cup debut in 2019 against the same side.

2.20 pm: Sourav Ganguly at the pitch report says, “It’s a used surface, and there are dark patches on it. This pitch will help the spinners as the day goes on. If Bangladesh win the toss and bat first, it’s ideal. This is the kind of pitch that Bangladesh would want to play India on.”

1.50 pm: Hello all and welcome to the live coverage of the World Cup, and it’s India back in action in quick time. It’s another chapter waiting to unfold in the India-Bangladesh rivarly!

With just a day’s gap after their defeat against hosts England, Virat Kohli and Co aim for a quick turnaround at the same venue (Edgbaston) in their penultimate league-stage game against a battle-hardened Bangladesh — a side that is trying to stay alive in race for the last-four berth.

While a team that has lost just one match in the six they have played (one washed out) cannot possibly be under crisis, there are suddenly quite a few problems cropping up around the Indian team. Having already lost Shikhar Dhawan due to injury, India lost another of their original squad members to a fracture: Vijay Shankar. With a yorker from Jasprit Bumrah proving to be tournament-ending for the Tamil Nadu all-rounder, opening batsman Mayank Agarwal has been named his replacement.

As for the immediate future, a few changes could be in the offing for India. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja are in contention for the first XI berths keeping the odd dimensions of the Edgbaston ground in mind, while Rishabh Pant would be expecting to continue in the middle order.

Mashrafe Mortaza’s side have seven points after three wins and a washout, three points behind fourth-placed England.

To retain any chance of qualifying from the 10-team group phase they need to win both of their final fixtures, against India and Pakistan, and hope results elsewhere go in their favour.

“India are very strong in this World Cup and it is not going to be easy but we have to play hard and be at 100 percent in every area,” he said.

“Are we going to still be in it? Maybe, maybe not. Let’s see but we have to play better than what we have done so far.”

Whatever be the case, a rivalry that has produced some spicy contests ever since the last World Cup, is set for another enthralling edition.
