Pakistan said that it has developed short-range nuclear weapons to quickly retaliate against any aggression from India, reported the Times of India. The country’s foreign secretary Aizaz Chaudhury told journalists that its development and deployment of tactical low-yield nuclear weapons was only aimed at deterring any conventional attack from India, which had "moved cantonments to the border". India maintained that any use of nuclear weapons by Pakistan would result in massive retaliation that will destroy the country, according to the report.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that India’s response to its desire for better bilateral ties has been discouraging. During his four-day visit to the United States, Sharif told the Pakistani diaspora that the Kashmir issue is the bone of contention between the two neighbours and it will have to be resolved for peace and stability in the region, reported the Press Trust of India. Sharif is scheduled to meet US President Barack Obama today.
